State of the Submission: How to Get Your Work Published (and Paid)

You’ve poured yourself into the piece—the idea that kept you up at night, the draft you can’t stop revisiting, the pitch that feels so close but still unanswered. Now what?

Join us for State of the Submission, a candid virtual Q&A with Broccoli Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief (Anja Charbonneau) on how to get your work seen, published, and (yes) paid. Whether you're a first-time writer unsure where to start or a seasoned creative looking to sharpen your submission game, this conversation will demystify the editorial process—from pitches that pop to building lasting relationships with editors.

We’ll talk about what editors actually want, common pitfalls to avoid, and how to navigate the weird, sometimes opaque world of freelance writing. Bring your questions, your aspirations, and maybe that draft you’ve been sitting on for too long.

Because good work deserves to be read—and paid for.
